Q: What did you learn about tailoring your message (word choice, phrases, etc.) during this project?
As stated before I am looking to become an educator, specifically an early childhood educator who also works with students whose first language isn't English as well as special education students. To further prove my case to future employers, I was advised to make two different cover letters, one in English and one in Spanish to showcase how fluent I am. This was great advice and makes me stand out when compared to others who may be applying for the same job. When creating this cover letter I made sure to research the two specific schools/districts that I wanted to apply for. This helped in tailoring my essays specifically to these schools. However, I wish I had further pushed each schools values or specific research catered to each school, something that can show my dedication for the company. In my cover letter I made sure to highlight my relevant experience like my qualifications as a student teacher. I included my experience with Best Buddies as it demonstrates my ability to work with diverse student populations. It's important to make yourself personable and by tailoring my cover letter to fit my preferred schools of choice I stand out as the best candidate. Tailoring my cover letter to each specific school and position was crucial because it demonstrated my genuine interest and understanding of their unique educational philosophy. Including adding my specific set of skills that align with their needs. A customized cover letter shows that you've done your research, are intentional about your career path, and are not simply sending out a generic application to multiple schools. By highlighting how my qualifications, experiences, and teaching approach directly match the school's mission and requirements, I significantly increase my chances of standing out among other candidates and securing an interview.
